The Ring from Nevada

I had a friend, my half-sponsor, not full sponsor. She was older than me by 25 years. Now she has passed away. Her name was Ann Harrison. She lived in Woodstock, very near. She was extremely fond of me. I used to go to her place. She was like my elder sister.

One funny story. She was serving me food in the evening, dinner. I came there three or four hours early, right after the Indian Consulate. I took the Greyhound Bus and then went to her place. We were chatting. Then she said to me the funniest thing — "Astrology, there are a few books. Chinmoy, can you tell the future?"

I said, "No, absolutely no."

She said, "Can you tell anything all around these places?"

I said, "Absolutely no."

She asked, "Why do I feel that you can see?"

I said, "It is all mental hallucination. I cannot see anything."

"But I feel deep inside that you can see."

I said, "You are absolutely wrong, absolutely wrong, absolutely wrong."

Then she said, "Please tell me something. I am begging you to say something about my future or anything."

I said, "I know nothing. I cannot say what is going to happen the next second. Will I be able to tell about the future?"

Then I told her, "Well, you are doing something wrong. I can see you have extreme fondness, or whatever they say, you are in love with somebody, this and that. But you have not chosen the right person."

She said, "How can you say that?" She was so fond of me.

I said, "I see in one of the books" — she had about 50 or 60 books or even more on her bookshelf — "I see in one of the books there is a small ring."

She said, "How do you know? You just sat here."

I said, "I can see it. Inside the book there is a ring." In those days, I did not know 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend'. In India, we do not use the term. I said, "A friend of yours has given you a ring, and I can see it in one of the books."

She said, "Since you are kind enough to say, now you have to prove which book." She did not deny it.

Then I stood up and gave her the book, and the ring was inside. I never knew the name of the State, but I said it was from Nevada. Believe me, at that time I did not know the names of all the States. So, her friend lived in Nevada. That is why I said the ring was from Nevada.
