_Professor Carse:_ Guru, one thing you hear runners talk a lot about is that in the process of running there's a kind of ecstasy that occurs after so many miles or after so much exercise. Do you think that's a spiritual reality or is that strictly a physical experience of theirs?

Sri Chinmoy: No, that is not physical. I am a seeker. On the strength of my inner awareness, I must say that it is something spiritual. Because anything that we give to the world in a spirit of offering will definitely bring peace, light and delight. So, while we are running, on the one hand, we are killing ourselves, and sometimes while running we are disappointed that, you know, we want to go faster and we cannot. But once we reach our destination, even the worst marathon runner — the best and the worst — once he completes the distance, this twenty-six miles, he gets tremendous joy and delight. This is his inner experience. His entire body, physical consciousness, wanted to do something, achieve something for him, and then he reached the goal, so the joy that he gets from his entire being, it is something spiritual, inner. We cannot say it is something physical.
