Four Earth-Summit Luminaries

In March 1999, Sri Chinmoy travelled to South Africa to lift President Mandela and to offer him the "Oneness-Peace: Earth-Summit-Transcendence-Fragrance Award". Sri Chinmoy explained to the President that he would be offering this award to the four individuals whom he felt have contributed the most to this latter part of the 20th century.

It is not by coincidence but by God's divine Plan that these four luminaries have emerged in the four corners of the world — you, my most esteemed President Mandela, in the south; President Gorbachev in the north; the Holy Father in the West; and Mother Teresa in the East. Although she was born in Albania, she made India her home and the focus of her life's mission. 9 March 1999
