78. Two dying wishes

A dying father's wish:

"Son, be great like me."

A dying mother's wish:

"Son, be good like me."

The dying son's reply:

"Father, I have tried to please you.

Lo, I have succeeded.

Mother, I have tried to please you.

Alas, I have sadly failed."
