Editor's introduction

To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations, which he reverently calls the Heart-Home of the World-Body, Sri Chinmoy offered fifty free concerts of music for peace throughout the world in 1995. During these concerts he performed his meditative compositions on a variety of instruments from many countries, and offered a brief statement dedicating the concert to the United Nations.

The first concert was held in Myanmar, birthplace of the third Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant. With U Thant’s blessingful encouragement, Sri Chinmoy began his devoted service to the United Nations in 1970, in the form of twice-weekly peace meditations. Thus, coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations is the twenty-fifth anniversary of Sri Chinmoy: The Peace Meditation at the United Nations.

Following is a list of the fifty concert venues, along with selected dedications by Sri Chinmoy and tributes kindly offered by distinguished guests and friends.
