Consoled in Bengali

At the airport in Madras, one of my bags had not arrived. I was talking to one of the workers about it. We were speaking English.

All of a sudden an American started consoling me in Bengali, saying, β€œIt will come one day. Do not worry!”

How did he know that I was Bengali?
