My Early Morning Prayer-Journeys, part 2

Return to the table of contents

1.

No more, no more,
This year’s failure-days
And failure-nights —
No more, no more!

2.

No more,
The faith-starvation-days
And faith-starvation-nights
Of this year —
No more!

3.

The old year painfully
Goes to sleep.

4.1

The new year bravely
Wakes up.

EMP 78-81. Qingdao, China, 31 December 2004

5.

Happy New Year,
Happy New Year!
Be brave, be brave!
No fear, no fear!

6.

Happy New Year,
Happy New Year!
Go forward,
Fly upward,
Dive inward!
No fear, no fear!

7.

Happy New Year!
God the Eye you claim,
God the Heart you claim
And God the Life you claim.
Claim, claim, claim, claim God.
No fear, no fear!

8.2

Happy New Year,
Happy New Year!
I shall be my God-hope-joy,
I shall be my God-promise-fulfiller.
No fear, no fear!

EMP 82-85. Qingdao, China, 1 January 2005

9.

I proudly declare
My greatness-mind-achievements.

10.

My Lord proudly uses
My goodness-heart-achievements.

11.

My mind-education
Is an accurate
Knowledge-fact-collector.

12.

My heart-education
Is the collector
Of God’s Heart-Tears
And God’s Eye-Smiles.

13.3

Every morning I sing
A God-worshipping
Prayer-song.

EMP 86-90. Qingdao, China, 2 January 2005

14.

An unseen Hand
Compassionately regulates
My life.

15.

Silence
Is the Mother
Of world harmony.

16.

When I am
An indomitable will,
God’s Thrill
Is unimaginable.

17.

Today God is so pleased
With my prayers and meditations
That He has blessingfully
Offered me
His golden Crown.

18.4

In the small hours of the morning,
God and I enter into
A lovely competition.
My task is
To touch God’s Feet.
God’s Task is
To examine my heart.
I finish my task long before God.
Poor God accepts the sad defeat.

When the night is far advanced,
God and I again enter into
Another lovely competition.
This time our task is
Mutual appreciation.
I shall have to appreciate God
As much as I can.
God will have to appreciate me
As much as He wants to.
Alas, I accept the very sad defeat.

EMP 91-95. Qingdao, China, 3 January 2005

19.

My silence-heart
Gladdens my Lord Supreme
Beyond measure.

20.

God’s Silence-Eye
Frightens me
To the core.

21.

My mind,
Stop covering my heart-sky
With your thick and dark clouds!

22.

My heart,
God is right in front of you.
Where is your attention,
Where?

23.5

God wants my heart
To be the owner
Of His Dream.

EMP 96-100. Qingdao, China, 5 January 2005

24.

My Lord,
Do make me a bond-slave
To Your Will.

25.

Alas, I do not know
When I will be able to return
To my Lord’s Heart-Home.

26.

A path-finder
Is
A new God-discoverer.

27.6

To manifest God
As perfectly as possible:
This is what my heart and I
Precisely stand for.

EMP 101-104. Qingdao, China, 6 January 2005

28.

Our Lord’s Compassion-Eye
Protects us
From the visible enemies.

29.

Our Lord’s Concern-Heart
Protects us
From the invisible enemies.

30.

My Lord breathes in
My heart-flower-fragrance.

31.7

A God-oneness-heart-dream
Is
Sweetness unimaginable.

EMP 105-108. Qingdao, China, 7 January 2005

32.

My God-obedience
Is
My supremely divine pride.

33.

I live either inside
My earth-born heart-cries
Or inside
My Heaven-free soul-smiles.

34.

God wants me
Not only to equal Heaven,
But also to surpass Heaven
In sleepless self-offering.

35.8

The soul perpetually smiles
Through the bondage-cage
Of the body.

EMP 109-112. Qingdao, China, 8 January 2005

36.

Every day
I wish to have
An enthusiasm-outburst.

37.

Alas,
We try to satisfy
Our Lord Supreme
With our extremely feeble efforts.

38.

In my aspiration-heart-home
There is no room
For uncertainty.

39.9

There was a time
When I used to live
On the outskirts of hope,
But now I am living
In the very breath of hope.

EMP 113-116. Qingdao, China, 9 January 2005

40.

Even the most powerful
Ignorance-night
Shall be illumined
By our inner light.

41.

Humanity’s hope-flames
Rise to Heaven.

42.

Divinity’s promise-stars
Touch Mother Earth.

43.

From the oneness-heart
We arrive
At the newness-shore.

44.10

From the newness-shore
We arrive
At the fulness-shore —
The Golden Shore.

EMP 117-121. Qingdao, China, 10 January 2005

45.

Life is meant
For our God-union
And not
For our mind-division.

46.

God-discovery-song
Tops the list
Of all our love, devotion
And surrender-songs.

47.

Our uniqueness comes
Either from God’s Feet
Or from God’s Heart.

48.11

I must find myself
In the heart of time eternal
And in the heart of space infinite.

EMP 122-125. Xian, China, 14 January 2005

49.

Those who outwardly
And indiscriminately display
An orchestra of spiritual power
Are not favoured
Either by Heaven’s Eye
Or by earth’s heart.

50.

Nature
Is the divine beauty
Of God’s supreme Glory.

51.

An act of compassion
Is one step forward
Towards God-realisation.

52.

The morning touch
Makes my heart beautiful.

53.

The evening touch
Makes my life peaceful.

54.

My God-surrender-life
Is the birth
Of a new creation.

55.12

My heart-sun
Feeds on
God’s Transcendental Delight.

EMP 126-132. Xian, China, 16 January 2005

56.13

A new heart is needed
To love goodness
In every human being.

EMP 133-136. Xian, China, 17 January 2005

57.

O my mind,
You must not remain a stranger
To God’s Heart
Any more.

58.

World-criticism
Has no place
In my aspiration-heart
And in my dedication-life.

59.

My heart tells my eyes
That I am very near
My Lord’s Heart-Home.

60.

God is asking us
Only for two things:
For our prayers to be sincere
And
For our meditations to be deep.

61.

The heart
Readily and immediately listens
To the dictates
Of the Inner Pilot.

62.

God heavily and proudly
Counts on our self-offering.

63.14

I am eager to go
To the four corners of the world
To find a man
Who is constantly happy,
Cheerful and self-giving.

EMP 137-140. Xian, China, 19 January 2005

64.

May my aspiration
Have another name:
Fragrance.

65.

May my dedication
Have another name:
Cheerfulness.

66.

May my prayer
Have another name:
Soulfulness.

67.

May my meditation
Have another name:
Intensity.

68.15

May I
Have another name:
Integrity.

EMP 141-145. Xian, China, 21 January 2005

69.

If we really love God,
Then our heart-smiles should be
Spontaneous and continuous.

70.

It is high time for me
To say good-bye
To each and every thing
That I do not need,
Such as my desire-life.

71.

The real spiritual life
Does not mean
To keep your eyes closed
All the time
And do nothing,
Nothing for the world.

72.16

I must keep
Each and every thought
Of my mind
Absolutely silent
While I meditate.

EMP 146-149. Huangshan, China, 25 January 2005

73.

The sun-duty
Is calling me.
I am running!

74.

The moon-beauty
Is calling me.
I am running!

75.

The star-frolic-joy
Is calling me.
I am running!

76.17

My life lives between
A body-camel-burden
And
A heart-deer-speed.

EMP 150-153. Huangshan, China, 31 January 2005

77.

My protection-fort
Is made of
My God-obedience
And
My God-dependence.

78.18

My Lord,
May I have a heart
Of ever-blossoming smile.

EMP 154-155. Nanjing, China, 3 February 2005

79.19

There is a God-loving
And God-serving
Divine hero
Within every heart.

EMP 156. Nanjing, China, 5 February 2005

80.20

Even an iota
Of consciousness-descent
In the spiritual life
Is a grave failure.

EMP 157. Nanjing, China, 6 February 2005

81.21

Every morning
God and I have
A heart-to-heart talk
Before I enter into
The hustle and bustle of life.

EMP 158. Nanjing, China, 7 February 2005

82.22

Each God-dream
Is eager to be
A manifested Reality.

EMP 159. Nanjing, China, 8 February 2005

83.23

My Lord,
Do You know that I feed
Only on
Your Compassion-Smiles?

EMP 160. Nanjing, China, 9 February 2005

Editor's preface to the first edition

During his trip to China, from November 2004 to February 2005, Sri Chinmoy was inspired to offer a number of prayers very early in the morning, when he came down from his hotel room to go out walking. These 160 prayers are published in two volumes.
