Yoga and Life
I wish to give a very short talk:Yoga is a Sanskrit word. I am sure all of you know it. It means union with God, man's conscious union with God. Now, who is God? God is the Eternal Life.
The aspiring human life is self-purification and self-realisation. The aspiring divine life is earth-transformation and God-manifestation. When these two lives — the human life and the divine life — become inseparable, perfect Perfection dawns on earth.
In the outer life, I do and then I know. In the inner life, I know first and then I do.
Now, in the outer life, when I do selfless service, I know what God the Love is; I know what God's all-embracing and all-fulfilling Love is.
In the inner life, I know first and then I do. What I know is God's Transcendental Will and what I do is to become a surrendered, conscious and constant instrument of God. This is the way how I realise God the Absolute and how I fulfil God the Eternal Pilot in His own Way.
Now I wish to read out a passage from my writings:
The spiritual fitness can be determined by our feeling of oneness, our desire for oneness. The tiniest drop has a right to feel the boundless ocean as its very own. Such is the case with the individual soul and the Universal Soul.
Where is God and where am I? God is on the third floor and I am on the first floor. I come up to the second floor. He comes down to the second floor. We meet, we both meet together. I do not forget to wash His Feet with my tears of delight. Neither does He forget to place me in His Heart of infinite Compassion.
Now, what is Yoga? Yoga is self-conquest. Self-conquest is God-realisation. And he who practises Yoga does two things by one stroke: he simplifies his whole life and he gets a free access to the Divine.
In the field of Yoga we can never pretend. Our aspiration must ring true. Our whole life must ring true. Nothing is impossible for an ardent aspirant. A higher Power guides his steps. God's adamantine Will is his safest protection. No matter how long or how many times he blunders, he has every right to come back to his own spiritual home. His aspiration is a climbing flame. It has no smoke; it needs no fuel. It is the breath of his inner life. It leads him to the shore of the Golden Beyond. The aspirant, with the wings of his aspiration, soars into the Transcendental.
God is infinite and God is everywhere. To a genuine aspirant, this is more than mere belief. He is the Reality without a second."
Paul: My guest today is Sri Chinmoy, who is a teacher of the spirit from India, who was born 39 years ago in Bengal and, six years ago, left to travel — really around the world. And in his name in those years have been established many Centres in the Philippines and the Far East and the Caribbean and the British Isles and North America, perhaps in places I've left out. And the music you have been hearing is from a chorus of disciples of Sri Chinmoy's. The music was written and directed by Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and hopefully we'll hear more of that music. What we would like to do now, really, in preparation for your more active participation and presence in this, is to talk a little bit and then we'd like to take phonecalls.
