Host: Can you give us some idea just generally of the meditation on the heart or is this something that you just speak personally to?

Sri Chinmoy: Of course, it will be of greater importance if I give someone a personal interview because each one has a meditation of his own. Meditation is a very significant word, at the same time very vague. Thousands of books perhaps you have read on meditation. You will get from these books inspiration, nothing more. But when it is a matter of aspiration, you have to go to a spiritual teacher. And when we say meditation on the heart, it demands aspiration. Somebody has to kindle the flame of aspiration in the seeker and that is the spiritual teacher. So, a spiritual teacher can easily kindle the flame of aspiration in an individual seeker. Then it becomes infinitely easier for the seeker to follow a spiritual path. But only I can say this much for the public, to the audience: if the individual seeker cultivates love, the very feeling of love, then he will be drawn more towards his heart than the mind. If he, in his day-to-day life, feels the necessity of love more than the so-called knowledge, let us not use the term 'wisdom' here because love itself is wisdom, but the knowledge, which you call intellectual knowledge or the outer knowledge, for some time if we feel that that is not so important. What is most important right now is to have love, all-fulfilling love, not the love that we use in our day-to-day life, which wants to possess and before we possess, we are possessed. That love is of no use. But the love that expands and extends our consciousness, and that love is divine love. And every day, if we can offer our divine love to our fellow beings — first, we have to offer our divine love to the Supreme, to the Almighty, and then we will offer it to mankind. So, when we try to possess love and offer it, divine love, to mankind, then we will try to know its Source. Where are we getting it from? We are getting it from the heart and then we will know from where the heart gets this love, the divine love, and we will come to know that it is directly coming from the soul. And the soul is getting it from the perennial Source, God, Lord Supreme.
