Dr Laxmi Mall Singhvi

Dr Laxmi Mall Singhvi was High Commissioner for India to the United Kingdom from April 1991 co December 1997. Dr Singhvi is an eminent jurist, leading constitutional expert, distinguished parliamentarian, prominent citizen-intellectual, well-known human rights exponent, doyen of the Indian Bar and most eloquent author, poet, public speaker, linguist and litterateur.

From his powerful foundation in the Jaina faith, Dr Singhvi has expanded to include people of all beliefs and backgrounds in his vision of the essential unity of humankind. He has been tirelessly active in promoting interfaith harmony and understanding. Dr Singhvi's work, especially in the United Kingdom, has won the abiding love and respect not only of the Indian community but also of individuals of many nationalities.

Dr Singhvi is the recipient of numerous significant honours, including the Padma Bhusan from the Indian Government (1998), honorary doctorates of law and literature from universities worldwide and the Interfaith Medallion of the International Council of Christians and Jews.

He was also one of the Presidents of the Parliament of the World's Religions held in Chicago in 1993.
