291. The evening alcoholics

The morning hippies prayed to God
For purity’s flood.
God found it difficult
To believe His ears.

The noon drug-addicts prayed to God
For the heights of Delight.
God found it difficult
To believe His eyes.

The evening alcoholics prayed to God
For the life of Transformation-light.
God found that impossibility’s
Measureless capacities
Had surrendered
To a facile God-possibility.
