Editor's introduction to the first edition

This book is a gift to you, and to me, of ageless wisdom converted into a contemporary form by the loving hands of the great Indian Spiritual Master Sri Chinmoy.

To read the words of Sri Chinmoy is to feed the aspiring mind spiritually. To feed the aspiring mind is to eventually touch the heart. The heart is the home of the soul. When the heart is touched, we are aware of God's Presence within us.

Sri Chinmoy has written for January 20th: “Earth wants you to be great. Heaven wants you to be good. God wants you to be spontaneously genuine. When you become great, you will realise how insignificant you are. When you become good, you will realise how false your life is. When you become spontaneously genuine, your life grows into God’s perfect perfection.”

When we concentrate on our divine ideal, we ARISE from our ignorance-sleep. When we meditate on the daily aphorisms, our lives are AWAKENED. When we meditate on Sri Chinmoy, we WALK with him, our unerring guide. When we sit in front of him and meditate while receiving his Blessing, we MARCH with the swiftest.

When our soul’s cry and God’s Delight are in communion, we RUN with the fastest. When we are totally one with God, we FLY.

For me, these daily meditations are God's teachings. Both of us, you and I, can endlessly learn from these teachings.

“Please tell me, God, how can I make these teachings most meaningful for me? I wish to Arise, Awake, Walk, March, Run, Fly.”

If you care enough to ask God this question every morning, to read each day’s meditation, three times, most soulfully, and to empty your mind of everything except the silence of God’s Presence, then God’s Voice will answer this question through your heart. Beyond this, if you can remember each day’s meditation throughout the day, you will see and feel your life in the process of complete transformation.

The meditations have meaning for the aspirants who are only awakening as well as for those who are ready to fly. Within a single meditation there are often multiple meanings depending on the level of understanding of the aspirant.

Inherent in them are hints of the overall teachings of Sri Chinmoy, and of that most precious living Master-disciple relationship. Most incredibly, Sri Chinmoy is alive in this century and is available to help sincere seekers!

Sri Chinmoy has written and published many essays, stories, poems, and songs. This creation of his is all the more astonishing when one feels that his achievements in the inner world dwarf the achievements in the outer world. For he is not only in touch with each disciple every day, no matter where the disciple may be (and the disciples are spread out over several continents), but he is able to give the most blessed help the human mind can imagine, as it is needed, when such help is in keeping with God’s Cosmic Will.

The Supreme Guru is God Himself. Sri Chinmoy, through his words and through his presence, helps us feel God’s Love, Peace, Light, Bliss, and Power. The meditations open the door to Sri Chinmoy’s Garden where God has planted a bumper crop to feed all aspirants. Indeed, it is the feast of the century.
